KEEPING DURSLEY IN THE NEWS
Ale fans join rail fans at new station
TRAIN enthusiasts and villagers celebrating the first station to re-open in Gloucestershire since the early 1960s marked the event with a suitable toast of "rail' ale.
Uley's independent brewer provided a special brew for the 281 passengers travelling on the first train to pull out of the new Cam and Dursley station.
The Uley Brewery provided the celebration bitter a week after its Old Spot ale became available to MPs in the Houses of Parliament.
Given the title Dursley Donkey, the brew may have had a kick like a mule, but also shared the nickname of the popular train that used to run on the branch line to Dursley.
The celebration bitter joined a range of other refreshments donated by local firms.
Coaley Junction as it was originally known closed in 1965.
The re-opening was the result of 15 years' campaigning by councils and an action group.
The station, which cost £390,000, will be officially opened tomorrow.
