Pub is spot on with beer fans

AN inn that serves up special sausages made with beer has been declared the 1997 South West Regional Pub of the Year.

The Old Spot Inn at Dursley is famous for its tasty bangers as well as its range of real ales. It also serves up its own Old Ric beer which is named after landlord Ric Sainty who runs the pub with his wife Ellie.

Now the Old Spot has won the accolade from the Campaign for Real Ale and goes forward to the national finals of the contest.

The Old Spot began life as a farm cottage in 1776 and later became a school. A century ago it was turned into a pub and was in a fairly rundown state when Ric and Ellie took it over in 1993.

It prides itself on being a traditional pub with no juke box or gaming machines.

Yesterday CAMRA' s Peter Bridle said: "The Old Spot is a delightful pub serving quality real ales and serves as a real focus point for the local community."
