Bishop of Gloucester
We were also blessed with the Bishop of Gloucester popping in with a gathering of local dignitaries and celebrities for a gentlemen's breakfast and to deliberate and cogitate over the effects of modern living on the church. Hopefully this will be a regular event, so if you're interested, get in touch with the Reverend Janet Bromley at the St James Rectory.
Celebrity Chef
Another fantastic Celebrity Chef night by Guy Nolder and this time the kitchen didn't look like a film set from World War I Well done and thank you, Guy.

Bob Parkinson is firmly in the driving seat for the next Celebrity Chef on January the 12th. Bookings are now being taken for his Lancashire Night. If you're interested, get in fast.
Meet The Brewer
Apologies for cancelling the 'Meet the Brewer' with Everards, but we had a clash of dates. We are looking to reschedule in the early part of next year.
Look out for the Wadworth's 'Meet the Brewer' on the 14th January 2010. There will be loads of promotions and freebies - and expect a heated debate on the beer that is known as 6x!
Staff - New & Returning
There are two new guys behind the bar; Steve Heaven (you might recognise him if your house has ever burnt down - he's a local retained firemen).

The other newbie is Jamie Hayward who is with us until summer of next year before leaving to join the RAF. Look out for Jordan, Lorna and Robbie, all returning to the fold this Christmas.
Old Gits Christmas Party
The last chance to book a spot for the Old Gits Xmas Party on Sunday 22nd December - it's open to all locals and it's a good way to meet fellow imbibers*. Names over the bar really ASAP, please.
Christmas Opening Hours
Our opening hours vary over Christmas, but they are below, on the boards and on the website. Please, please remember that the doors on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve close at 9pm. No Exceptions. No one will be allowed in after 9pm ... and I don't really care how often you drink at the pub, or for how long, or how much money you spend here, you still ain't getting in after 9pm. New Years Eve
In the past, we have always gone for a low key sort of affair on New Year's Eve in the pub, but this year were going to raise the bar a little - we are having an 80s pop star night, with tunes from the era that brought us over sized shoulder pads, 'Kiss Me Quick' hats and 'Who Shot JR' T-shirts. There will be prizes for the best fancy dress, so get yer glad rags on!
Evening Cheeseboards
Because we don't do evening meals it means that the only options for a supper at the old spot consists of ... peanuts, scratchings, crisps or cheese and ham toasties ... mmmmmmm, toasties! Well, NO MORE! We are now pleased to be able to offer cheeseboards in the evening, for consumption inside, outside, to share or for just you. The only stipulation is that you must order them by 2pm that day, so plan ahead guys!
Email from the Old Spot Website - Don Harmer
Dear Stuart,
I was touched to see the mention of Don Harmer on the Old Spot Inn website:
http://www.oldspotinn.co.uk/news_0509.htm
Don was my Uncle and Godfather, and was as you so correctly say a real Gentleman. I am sure all his friends will know he was an avid Gloucester Rugby fan. I often used to attend games with him, along with various members of my family. My son Euan formed a very strong bond with Don, and Gloucester was part of this.
The reason for this email is to say that there is now a brick, in memory of Don, on the Gloucester Rugby Walk of Fame.
"Don Harmer, 1937-2009"
I just thought those who knew him and still go to Gloucester, would like to know.
Again thanks for the mention.
cheers,
Ian Venner
